“The longings of your heart are not incidental, they are critical messages. The desires of your heart are not to be ignored, they are to be consulted. As the wind turns the weather vane, so God uses your passions to turn your life. God is too gracious to ask you to do something you hate.”

Our New Little Bundle of Joy

He wasn't even 24-hours old and was running and kicking up his heels.

His buddy, Kobe, watched in awe from the next paddock.

Praise God for the warm sun for lazy afternoon naps with Mama.

We have a couple names in mind.

Sloppy Joe is one.

His sister, Luna, loves to hover and play "Mama" too.

Hard to resist...I'm sure.

Another Bull Calf

Calf alert!

Russ just came flying up to the Wee House (where my computer is...) to announce the early morning arrival of a new bull calf ~ by Dixie ~ pictured below. :)

Two bull calfs born this month!! Woo Hoo!! Just what we desired! Grabbing my camera now...

We wait 9 months for this day.

Pictures soon!

Otis and Aunt Bee

Our new little boar, Otis, is here.

And he's smiling about it...

Why?

Because if you look in the crate behind him, I also got him a playmate and partner.

Aunt Bee.

(I don't think we will ever have a Barney...he'd be too skinny for a pig.)

They had a grand time last night checking out their new digs.  (Literally)

And then upon checking at bedtime, they were tucked deep in the hay, spooning.

I look forward to springtime with our new "babies".

Sure Sign of Spring

Today I'm heading north, to buy a pig.

Not just any pig.

More later today ~ on this new addition to our farm.

Inspiration and Determination

For those of you who don't know,

this year will be our 3rd Meet the Mushers event.

We fly in Iditarod dog mushers from their home state to swap stories with us,
 in Michigan,
in a campground setting.

Open to the public...for 4 days.

Our first year (2008), we hosted Lance Mackey.

He had come off of winning the last 4 Yukon Quests and the last two Iditarods.

All races of 1000+ miles.

Lance is a perennial favorite among the followers of the sport.

Why?

And so is his wife, Tonya.

(Dog bootie maker for Lance,
Wisconsin resident ~ Donna Schumacher, on left...
Tonya on right.)

And two years later, he's still winning Iditarods.

He did again yesterday ~ in 8 days.

His fourth ~ which, in the history of the Iditarod,
has never been done "back to back" in consecutive wins.

Step into our mushing world and see what this amazing man,
husband/father/grandfather/son/cancer survivor and humble competitor,
is all about.

Lance is only the tip of the iceberg in amazing stories.

Each musher, and their team, is a study in human and canine nature.

Meal from the Land

Last night was a meal from the land.

Russ put up over 4 gallons of the first batch of Maple Syrup.

With more to come~!

The event was celebrated with pancakes (with our berries tossed in),
our maple syrup and maple sausage links from our pork.

Every bite brought back memories of our berry picking days this past fall.

But not for everyone.

Planning for Summer

Besides starting a new Farm Market at our place,
and planning for our Meet the Mushers in August,
we try and find time to enjoy our animals.

For Russ, it is a Sunday ride.

Rain or shine.

He leaves for the day, and meets up with friends.

Farm friends.  Pat and Deb.

They travel all over Antrim County.

And take their time doing it.

This year, they are planning on camping along the way.

And I'll stay home and hold down the fort.

That's the way I like it...

And enjoy the company of those left behind.
